I used to use things like x360Achievements to keep track of achievement news, which was kinda cool sometimes - occasionally you'd see lists posted for a game before it had been released, and some achievements would give away spoilers or surprises in the game that hadn't been announced yet (I remember Black Ops being a big one here), so that was kinda neat. I enjoyed them for a good few years, to be honest. It's not one of the things that actually made me buy a 360, but it was a feature that I greatly looked forward to when I was making my purchase. I thought the idea was really cool when the 7th gen was starting out. It's so common that it's become background noise to me.īut I wanna hear what your experiences are, or what you think about the state of achievements/trophies today. These days I feel like it's a bit of an overload, I've got them on Xbox, PS4, Steam, and WoW among other things. I wasn't a huge fan of their implementation back then so I'd turn off notifications wherever I could and I never saw the appeal of "completing" a game by getting 100% of the achievements. My personal views on this are that I've lost total interest in them. How would you feel if future games platforms distanced itself from having a ton of achievements?.Do achievements add anything of value to modern games?.Were you once a compulsive achievement/trophy hunter and do you still practice that today?.It's been about 10 or so years now since they've been a thing and I'm hoping people can share their feedback on what they think about achievements today in 2016. I've been thinking a lot about achievements lately. /r/GamePhysics - Clips of game physics shining and glitchingĭesign based on /r/FlatBlue created by /u/creesch.
